2026-10-18 · Roughnecks Session 2

Recap

A second “session zero” that turned into the first real scene. The level-15 party, security contractors by day and barbershop-quartet entertainers when the mood strikes, each rolled a wondrous item as a “found on your travels” freebie (d1635 table, rerolls allowed) @ 00:12:28. Then the scene opened at the Sky Dock in Tari (Gaithiyre, heard “Gaethere”), a samurai-flavoured city of torii gates and upturned eaves fused with gnomish levitation machinery, where the SkyTrain The Cloud Breaker hovered at its gantry before a crowd of priests, engineers and the Rugby Gazette’s photographers @ 01:12:59, @ 01:15:35.

Seven Warforged of Unit 7 Prime marched aboard @ 01:20:57. The Heartcore was sealed in the 14th and last car under magic cast over its reflective surfaces; only someone at the dock in Ka can open it, and opening it early triggers protective spells @ 01:24:10. Snook rallied the team (“River Knockers on three”) and cast a permanent telepathic bond on the party @ 01:25:57. The party was given private Car 4 @ 01:28:36.

Taj Mac Nudat questioned the decorated official (Turgythe Official) talking to the pilot and learned the whole train is under an anti-teleport ward, nobody aboard holds a key to the cargo car, and the party was hired by the Turgythe Space Program itself, which owns train and cargo but not the Warforged @ 01:45:36, @ 01:52:19. Payment is a choice of a seat in the space program plus 30,000 gp each, or a powerful magic item from the Turgythe vaults, and only if the Heartcore reaches Ka @ 01:40:35. Knowledge checks identified the Last Lanterns (now level 18) and the Warforged’s literal devotion to their manifest @ 01:54:27, @ 01:58:11. Rich and Nutty also glimpsed a hooded prisoner in layered manacles being loaded @ 01:35:51.

The party walked forward through the train (Car 5 passengers and poker, Car 6 galley, Car 7 observation car). Ren(n) cast detect anxieties from the bar @ 02:34:03; Ozan’s character bribed the Tiefling Bartender for gossip: the prisoner is in Car 12 and other components are being guarded besides the Heartcore @ 02:37:14. Snook gave Mr. Rowe the quote “the safest train in the sky” and was promptly ditched for Corwin Ashby @ 02:40:57. The Cloud Breaker lifted off on its two-day, one-night flight to Ka @ 02:43:00. The session ended as a silent 10-foot Warforged stood in the doorway of the observation car and every passenger’s anxiety spiked @ 02:45:37.
