Also heard as: the Rug Mandela

The party registers for Lutathal’s annual flying-carpet death race (called the Rug Mandela in episode 6) without owning a carpet, and schemes to get one in time.

History

  • Registers for ticket #7 with a shot at a 50,000 gp prize, later settling on the team name “Scorching Rays” 2023-10-24 @ 02:52:47–02:53:46, @ 02:57:55–02:57:58.
  • Sponsorship negotiations with carpet-maker Greg collapse @ 02:28:58–03:18:00.
  • Learns the race (now 20,000 gold winner-take-all) starts the next morning with no carpet in hand; plans a bait-and-switch — acquire any flying carpet, disguise it, and swap it for a real racer’s 2023-11-28 @ 02:06:28, @ 01:33:40–01:36:58.
  • Pat bluffs/intimidates a shopkeeper out of a discarded firework carpet and test-flies it with a janky but functional result (half the carpet holds weight, the other half sags) @ 01:50:53–01:56:28, @ 02:00:56–02:02:32.

Unresolved

The race itself has not been run as of the last recorded session, which ends on an unrelated cliffhanger (a demon rising through the city).

Rugby’s Roaming Gazette adds a third naming variant for this same race-and-prize concept: the “Rugmandella” Race, grand prize a carpet also called the “Rugmandella” (made by Carpet Baggers Industries), starting in Lauvog, Western Territories — on top of the “Magic Carpet Race”/Lutathal (episode 5) and “Rug Mandela”/Liduriel/Kalooza (episode 6) variants 2023-09-24. Another data point in the shifting names, not a resolution.
