Also heard as: Rex Savauge
A dashing adventurer and longtime field correspondent for Rugby’s Roaming Gazette, riding his griffin Sterling, “good friends” with King Fashim Thoronor, and protected by an amulet that blocks location magic and scrying — until that same amulet makes him impossible to find when he goes missing for good.
History
- “FIELD REPORT” debut: single-handedly defeats a band of lizard-men ravaging locals, including their leader, near a cliff edge and a covered wagon 2019-04-01.
- Flies to aid King Fashim Thoronor’s kingdom on griffin Sterling, fighting off an ambush by four harpies mid-flight before continuing on toward the kingdom of Turgyth 2019-04-09.
- Fights and kills a storm-summoning “thunder wolf” that ambushes his campsite at night 2019-04-15.
- En route to the Hawkthorne Royal Gala, is attacked by his own carriage driver, who wields an enchanted glass eye under an eyepatch to try to dominate his mind; Rex resists and hands the man to the local guard 2019-04-22.
- Goes missing: the Gazette runs a “MISSING PERSON” notice asking the public and local authorities for information 2019-06-10.
- Still missing weeks later; the Gazette’s scrying attempts to locate him fail because he wears an amulet that blocks location detection and scrying — the same protection that made him a great investigator now makes him unfindable. He has a wife and children worried for him 2019-07-15.
- By JULY 4 4885, with no sign of him, the Gazette publicly solicits a replacement field journalist, describing him as “our dearest and most respected journalist” and implying he is gone for good 2020-04-13.
- Confirmed dead by his eventual successor Timothy Mantooth, who writes that Rex was “tragically killed while on a field report in the orc lands” 2022-12-18.
