JakeDM’s Campaign (2023)

A 2023 campaign DM’d by Jake, running a mercenary crew through a doppelganger-infiltrated bank heist, an accidental city-leveling catastrophe, a refugee flight, and a magic-carpet death race — six sessions recorded so far, the last ending on an unresolved cliffhanger. One session in the middle is a disconnected one-shot DM’d by Pat instead of Jake, almost certainly mislabeled into this slug (see Interlude, below).

Shape of the campaign: main arc + a mislabeled interlude

  • Main arc — Heist, Firestorm, and the Carpet Race (Sep–Nov 2023). The party, a band of mercenaries raised together by an unnamed “adopted father” benefactor, is hired by Mitch Copperhead to rob a bank in Lidurithal and kill its doppelganger head of guard, Cadillac. The heist succeeds in part — the Dyson Dynamo is recovered, but Cadillac escapes — and the party’s own fire magic, amplified by the soul-charged Dynamo, levels an entire city. The survivors flee as refugees, flying ahead of the column to Lutathal to enter the Magic Carpet Race, pick up a new party member (Gang), and draw the attention of a planar law-enforcement agency hunting the Dynamo — ending session 6 on a fresh cliffhanger as a demon rises through the city streets.
  • Interlude — Hawthorne and the Tomb of Horrors (session 3), DM’d by Pat. 2023-10-08 is titled “Copperhead the Doppelganger” and slotted into this campaign’s session list, but its content has nothing to do with the heist arc: it’s run by Pat, not Jake, and follows two entirely different characters — Jace Gandolfini (Jake) and Sarkhan Vol (Nutty), wizard-professors at Hawthorne College — setting out after the Tomb of Horrors. No on-mic connection to the main arc exists. Treated here as a stand-alone interlude rather than invented continuity.

The party (main arc)

Character names and even classes are inconsistently stated across sessions (several PCs are never named on mic at all); see each PC page’s own “Unresolved” section for specifics.

  • Pat — Pat’s Wizard, a tiefling wood mage with a prehensile tail; later described as a sorcerer with a luck-dragon familiar named Randy
  • Donnie — Colt Hopper, a grippli (frog-folk) gunslinger, later named Donovan; also fields a second character, the witch Aisling
  • Connor — Jim Jones (nickname only), a human/cursed Oracle
  • Rich — Richard Findelberg, an android wizard/crafter
  • Nutty — Seabreeze, a Strix archer also described as a Druid
  • Ozan — Frankie, a Paladin/Bard with very high Charisma
  • Jess — Jess’s Witch, a witch (later revealed to be a changeling) who owns the folding boat Nessie
  • therealvossi (“Ty”) — Gang, a half-orca bar bouncer recruited into the party in session 6

Timeline

  1. 2023-09-12 — Mitch Copperhead hires the party to rob a bank in Lidurithal and kill Cadillac; they infiltrate the city, dodge the guard, and enter the bank just as a rival crew tunnels in using giant burrowing creatures — cliffhanger.
  2. 2023-10-01 — A three-way vault brawl against Cadillac’s crew; the party recovers the loot and the Dyson Dynamo, but Cadillac escapes under cover of his own wizard’s Darkness spell.
  3. 2023-10-08 — Interlude, DM’d by Pat: [[Jace Gandolfini]] and Sarkhan Vol decipher a cursed map and prepare to set out for the Tomb of Horrors.
  4. 2023-10-15 — An ambush by Copperhead’s doppelganger caravan turns into a magical firestorm when the Dynamo mirrors the party’s own fire spell across the city of Godoy, killing roughly 90% of its population; the party loots the ruins and covers its tracks.
  5. 2023-10-24 — The party flees Godoy with the refugee column, flies ahead to Lutathal to enter the Magic Carpet Race, scries on Cadillac’s purge plans, and falls out with a carpet-shop sponsor, Greg.
  6. 2023-11-28 — Planar investigators from the TIU confront the party over the Dynamo and mark them as suspects; the party recruits Gang, bait-and-switches a race carpet, and the session ends as a demon rises through the city streets.

Major threads

Resolved

  • The bank heist for Mitch Copperhead — bank robbed, Dynamo recovered, though Cadillac escaped 2023-10-01
  • Copperhead’s doppelganger caravan ambush — caravan killed/burned, Copperhead himself killed 2023-10-15

Dangling / open

  • Cadillac himself survives, now plotting to purge changelings near the king 2023-10-24
  • The Dyson Dynamo’s soul-harvesting nature and how the party means to recharge it going forward
  • Covering up the destruction of Godoy (~90% mortality) — no in-fiction consequences yet
  • The TIU’s manhunt — the party is now flagged as suspects in the Dynamo’s disappearance 2023-11-28
  • The Magic Carpet Race (the Rug Mandela) — entered via a bait-and-switch carpet, race not yet run
  • The demon rising through the city streets — brand-new cliffhanger, completely unresolved
  • Richard’s indentured servitude to the rug shop, bartered away to avoid paying for a carpet — never revisited on-mic after session 5
  • The Tomb of Horrors expedition (interlude) — map deciphered, party preparing to depart; no further session has picked it back up

Unresolved

Whether session 3’s Hawthorne/Tomb of Horrors content belongs to this campaign at all, or is simply mislabeled with the “jakedm” slug, is never clarified — it shares no characters, DM, or plot with the other five sessions. Several locations across the main arc (Lidurithal vs. Godoy) may be the same city under different transcribed names; see each place page’s own Unresolved section.
